About

My name is Dorothy Ann and I am a designer, a business owner, and a food enthusiastist.  I have farming and market experience and am dedicating to spreading the love for local and sustainably produced food to others.  For these reasons among others I have decided to launch my own recipe blog dedicated to local, sustainably produced food and the farmers that grow it.  Each of my blog posts will feature either a recipe or a farm that I am currently working on or visiting. In each recipe post I will identify the origin, method of production, distance traveled from farm farm to plate, and the cost of every ingredient (with the exception of certain staple food items like flour, salt, pepper, etc.).
Now that you know a little bit about my ethics and the guidelines I use for this blog, there are some other things about me (and therefore my blog) I think you should know.  First and foremost, I am TERRIFIED of onions!  Yes I know this is quite childish and strange and your probably thinking 'How old are you??? Seriously grow up.'  To that I will answer 'I am 24 years old and I have tried ever so hard to grow-up but its just not happening!'  That being said...you will find that I frequently use onion powder as a substitute for fresh onion in my recipes.  I DO realize that onion powder is NOT the same as as using fresh onion in flavor, aroma or the amount that it will make you cry, therefore I will note in my posts where fresh onion can be used instead of onion powder, and put a similar disclaimer within the post.

Other fun factoids...I love adventure and the outdoors, broccoli is one of my favorite vegetables, I am passionate about food and eating right, I have double jointed thumbs, and I can recite the alphabet backwards.  I also have experience growing food hydroponically indoors as well as tending a small outdoor garden of herbs, peppers, and tomatoes, and have experimented with growing mushrooms from recycled agricultural wastes.  I believe in composting and hope to start my own mushroom and vegetable farm someday!
